Project Background
In an ambitious digital modernization effort, Japan Railways (JR) partnered with NOHARA Holdings to implement cutting-edge facility management solutions at the renowned Mojiko Station in Kitakyushu. This transformative project deployed SIMLAB’s SIM-ON technology to establish a next-generation infrastructure management framework for this culturally significant railway terminal.
Scope and Objectives
Mojiko Station’s dual role as a protected heritage site and active transportation hub demanded sophisticated management solutions balancing preservation with operational efficiency. The project utilized advanced Matterport digital twin modeling as the spatial infrastructure for SIM-ON integration. Every operational system—from mechanical equipment and electrical infrastructure to plumbing networks, climate control, and smart sensors—was meticulously mapped and connected within the platform ecosystem.
Use of SIM-ON
SIM-ON established a comprehensive management hub for asset optimization, proactive maintenance strategies, and incident management protocols. Facility operators engage with photorealistic 3D station environments through Matterport integration, providing immediate access to detailed system information including passenger conveyance systems, lighting infrastructure, and power distribution equipment. Maintenance schedules, warranty data, technical specifications, and service histories are consolidated within an accessible central database.
Key Functions Utilized
Smart IoT ecosystem integration for continuous monitoring of climate conditions, power usage, and occupancy analytics
Comprehensive Asset Manager facilitating maintenance cycle optimization, document integration, and warranty management
Sophisticated Task Manager & Timeline system for strategic maintenance planning and inspection tracking
Mobile accessibility empowering on-site technicians to document issues and execute tasks through portable devices
Benefits
Integrated visual management of sophisticated infrastructure within busy public transportation environment
Enhanced operational responsiveness and improved team coordination for maintenance activities
Elevated documentation standards ensuring regulatory compliance and audit readiness
Strategic digital foundation for future facility enhancements and crisis management planning
Strategic Outcome
SIM-ON has enabled Japan Railways to reimagine Mojiko Station as an intelligent, data-driven transportation hub—streamlining maintenance workflows, extending asset lifecycles, and ensuring exceptional service delivery for the traveling public.
